Sonic Advance 1 & 2 means we get the heroine who premiered on the Gameboy to fill out a roster slot on the GameCube…
Cream the Rabbit
First Appearance: Sonic Advance 2, 2002
Who is she? If the SATs become more Sonic the Hedgehog-based, then the appropriate simile is Sonic : Tails :: Amy : Cream. Cream the Rabbit is the little sister to the Sonic Team, and, complete with her technical role in Sonic Heroes, is often seen as “Girl Tails”. But she is her own person/bunny! For instance, she is one of the few characters in Sonic the Hedgehog canon to have a parent appear (and, in some continuities, that parent is being seduced by a crocodile). Also, she has a sidekick of her own, Cheese the Chao. That’s just super.
What are her powers? Cream can fly under her own power thanks to her gigantic rabbit ears. This makes even less sense than Tails’ tails, so we are not going to think too hard about this. …. Okay, one question: she has rabbit ears. She’s a rabbit. This isn’t a “Tails is unique with two tails” thing. Can her mom fly? Can all rabbits fly? Or, like, they aren’t trying hard enough? Dammit, I said I wasn’t going to do this…
Why is she still relevant today? Cream the Rabbit does not get as many features nowadays primarily because she isn’t cool. Amy Rose is inevitably going to be front and center as “the girl”, and, because Sonic the Hedgehog is a boy franchise, you often see more women that can “kick ass”, like Blaze the Cat or Sticks the Badger. There is still a place for Cream, though! Usually as a damsel or someone who stays home to wish everyone luck… That is technically a place!
Let’s Play 2-D Sonic the Hedgehog Games
Night 8
April 28, 2026
Random Notes:
- Edward is in his dark little corner, we are streaming, and all is right with the world. Welcome to 2001’s Sonic Advance with BEAT, fanboymaster, Chromes, Cassandralyn, Jeanie, and Caithness.
- Respect Broly. You know you want to.
- “I’m gonna get a whole ass TV to play one game.”
- “Make my Edward groooow!”
- “Your insistence on doing everything as wrong as possible confounds and angers me.” “It is going to be noted on your performance review.”
I attempt to initiate some manner of loop glitch advised by a new chatter, but I fail horribly. I didn’t want to trap Sonic the Hedgehog in the void anyway.- We will see Metal Sonic far too often over the course of this Sonic streamathon, but Missile Shooting Mecha Knuckles is worth noting.
- Ample Vigour joins temporarily to transliterate a North Texas accent.
- What happens when all the lawyers go away? The DLC of MindsEye starts getting weird.
- The stock market is just vibes, and that is why it is stupid. Go ahead, economists, try and prove me wrong.
- Please sign up to be an organ donor. Also, please enjoy when the temperature is only 60 (American units of measurement).
- Caliscrub joins just as we are battling the final boss of Sonic Advance. No, I did not get all the Chaos Emeralds.
- Sonic Advance is as done as it is going to get. Time to move on to Sonic Advance 2, released the following year.
- Caliscrub cannot remember fanboymaster’s opinions on Chrono Cross. Good thing those are all preserved forever.
- “Let’s all think about Sonic Heroes.”
- Skreamin Red Skull is in the chat and explains why Chaos and Big the Cat should be friends.
- The second level boss is a giant pain in the ass, so after Game Overing as Sonic, we move over to Cream the Rabbit.
- Please do not lose your Gameboy Advance to girlfriends that will ghost you after playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
I am embarrassed to admit I am not a sonicologist, yet BEAT has a Sonic PHD.- Boog also winds up in the chat as we are excited for a Switch 2 excuse to play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth again. Let us celebrate by examining the history of sequel teasers.
- And, since we moderately get on that topic, we review a history of “Ansem” voice actors for Cass.
- Kishi becomes a surprise guest out of nowhere! … Who may just be here to watch Caliscrub play Guilty Gear (footage currently/forever unavailable).
- I manage to launch Cream into a bottomless pit too many times, so we are done with Sonic Advance 2. Sorry! I cannot follow basic directions!
Next lap on Sonic’s Marathon: I’ve got a hedgehog in my pocket.
