Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure is our game du jour, and it features an extremely limited cast. We already covered Knuckles and Tails, who could we possibly investigate other than…

Doctor Eggman aka Ivo Robotnik

This boss is... differentFirst Appearance: Puzzle Construction, 1991

Who is he? Sonic the Hedgehog’s eternal nemesis! Even on the rare occasions where Eggman has worked with Sonic, he has had ulterior motives that may or may not involve blowing up the moon. Robotnik’s most common answer to problems is to subjugate a local population and build a (somehow evil) theme park, but he has occasionally been creative with transforming opponents into playing cards or conquering dimensions or whatever.

What are his powers? He is super smart. Do you know how to make a bunny into a power source for a robot chicken that launches infinity missiles? Or could you turn some echidna gems into a space station? Unleash a werehog? No. No you could not. That’s because you’re stupid.

Why is he still relevant today? Gee, it is really hard to imagine a tech magnate with a god complex destroying the environment and funding his ridiculous, completely unnecessary inventions with earnings from a bunch of casinos. Also: Sonic needs an enemy, so robuttnik will have to do.

Random Notes:

  • Welcome to a Special Sunday Presentation of Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure. There is a background and everything! BEAT is in the driver’s seat, and fanboymaster, Chromes, Ample Vigour, and me will be providing additional commentary. You know, like asking Who’s the Boss?
  • Would it be foolish to get your wife cargo shorts for Mother’s Day? Yes. Yes it would.
  • Let’s talk about Eminem, the artist that will never be cancelled.
  • “I’ve seen this little blue fucker more than I’ve seen my own father.”
  • “Hello, I’m Chromes’ friend from the internet. I’m here to soak your cat.”
  • Eggman is hastily working on Bullshit Bottomless Pit Zone: Act 1.
  • BEAT gives in to the sin of save states for the final challenges. I condone this wholeheartedly.
  • Ample Vigour shares the God of War of Woodworking Videos. A link is available, but please do not watch it.
  • More issues with loopsHaving blown up Dr. Eggman, BEAT decides to rapidly cycle through other Neo Geo Pocket games. Get ready to see two minutes of a whole lot of pixels.
  • Dark Arms: Beast Buster 1999 is first up. It has a cool skeleton! And it may be related to a game that this site endorses.
  • And then we move over to the darling of discount bins everywhere, Evolution: Eternal Dungeons.
  • King of Fighters R-2 is up for, like, seconds.
  • Metal Slug: 1st Mission! BEAT at least plays a level or so of that.
  • Neo Cherry Master Color? That was a thing? Shanghai Mini? Are we in a casino?
  • Rockman: Battle & Fighters is up next. BEAT beats a Robot Master!
  • Big Bang Pro Wrestling follows. That bang is not sufficiently big.
  • Now we have Dive Alert: Becky’s Version. I just saw this in action, and I am still not certain it actually exists.
  • Pac-Man! Picture Puzzle (which is Picross)! Puyo Pop! You could claim that all of those games are tangentially Sonic related.
  • Blackjack is another casino game, and Crush Roller is another maze game. Can you believe how you used to buy a portable game cartridge, and it could be a whole Sonic the Hedgehog title, or something you could do with a deck of cards?
  • Or you could get some horny game staring a weird bug where none of the buttons do anything. I probably cannot even pronounce the name of that one.
  • Nige-Ron-Pa is… a dungeon crawler? And I am dedicatedly not going to say that title out loud.
  • Cool Cool Jam is none of those things.
  • And BEAT closes this mini marathon with Delta Warp. There are many triangles, and those triangles are apparently fun. Thank you for watching an ADD-based tour of the Neo Geo Pocket Color.

Next lap on Sonic’s Marathon: A Shadow falls.

Can't get enough of that knux
