Fang the Hunter aka Fang the Sniper aka Nack the Weasel
First Appearance: Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, 1994
Who is he? Fang is a wanted criminal in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. And, uh, who are the authorities in this world? Like, is G.U.N. after him? Some manner of animal police? I am asking because Eggman doesn’t have wanted posters out there, and that dude once blew up the moon. What did Fang do!? Maybe his hat is too cool for society.
What are his powers? Aside from the hat, Fang has a gun and a hovercycle. The hovercycle is named “Marvelous Queen”, which raises absolutely no questions at all. He is also generally “wily” in the way that Knuckles was in his first appearance (but then became an idiot). Also, as you can see on today’s stream, fans assume he can jump well.
Why is he still relevant today? He made a return in Sonic Superstars, but Fang has otherwise generally fallen off the map. And you know why? Batgirl. Rogue the Bat fills the same role as “generally competent criminal”, but she also is an occasional ally, and appeals to a very particular portion of the audience. There is no way in Mobius that Fang can compete with her popularity, so he has been relegated to the Sonic the Hedgehog discount bin.

Random Notes:
- To cap off the 16-bit era of Sonic the Hedgehog, we are going to play a modern remake that is intended to look like a Genesis title. So here is a special “Sunday stream” of 2022’s Sonic Triple Trouble 16-Bit with BEAT, fanboymaster, and Cassandralyn.
- BEAT has conquered all of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance! He is a super ninja!
Cassandralyn is now playing Another Crab’s Treasure. This leads to a discussion of FromSoftware titles and how there are three indie genres (they do not all become crab).- Cass is also dealing with mutant bananas at her local supermarket.
- Is it easier to make a Mario stage or a Sonic stage? My money is on the former.
- “Joe Rogan was my least favorite character. I can’t think of any NewsRadio character I liked less. Oh, wait…”
- Ample Vigour jumps in briefly as we are learning about For All Mankind.
- Caliscrub joins just in time for Dr. Who discussion. Kinda.
- “Why are you bouncing on a seal nose?” “Because it’s adorable.”
- To live a life of power, you must have faith that what you believe is right, even if others tell you you’re wrong
- Chromes enters as we review fake brands in Another Crab’s Treasure.
- Edward the Cat is living in a Garfield comic strip, but he is not going to start talking about chemtrails.
- I firmly believe that you should not be able to buy porn if you are a bunch of leeches shaped like a guy.
- Don’t let anyone put you on a committee or make you an old lady in the Christmas parade.
- We are all looking forward to Coyote vs. Acme (not grocery stores, apparently).
- “I don’t like it when Sonic suffers for your sins.” “Sonic is a good boy.”
- Having completed the Sonic Scenario (with all the Chaos Emeralds!), we take a moment to test out Nack the Weasel. He has a little pogo tail. And a triple jump. And a gun! We even close out the stream with Nack on Nack violence! What more could you ask for?
