This may be Knuckles’ Chaotix, but our favorite echidna is only a guest star. Chaotix is really led by…
Vector the Crocodile
First Appearance: Knuckles’ Chaotix, 1995
Who is he? Hey, did you know Knuckles’ Chaotix had a plot? Apparently an island popped in out of nowhere thanks to the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, and Eggman believes that a teleportation ring on this new island can get him back to the Chaos Emeralds. Naturally, Eggy finds the time to build a whole damn theme park there, and then kidnaps a random member of Chaotix. Thus, Knuckles teams up with Chaotix to beat back Dr. Robotnik and save the day. So, to answer the question, Vector is the leader of Chaotix. He wears headphones.
What are his powers? Vector is strong like Knuckles, has actual swimming abilities, and can breathe various elements in an offensive fashion. However, none of these powers ever really come up, and he mostly just jumps while rolled up like a bagel.
Why is he still relevant today? The Sonic the Hedgehog universe needs some other little guys. Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, and Charmy Bee do not really have much to do in the Sonic the Hedgehog Universe as detectives (give or take that time Sonic died), but they exist as distinct entities. You can acknowledge that if something happened to Sonic, there would be some other whacky animals running around. Vector and his pals are essential in their inessentiality. They are the Goodfeathers of Sonic’s Animaniacs, and that at least gives 40-somethings a touchstone.
Let’s Play 2-D Sonic the Hedgehog Games
Night 5
April 14, 2026
Random Notes:
- Waste your precious time on this earth with Knuckles’ Chaotix, BEAT, fanboymaster, Chromes, Caithness, Morning Song, and Jeanie. Any one of these participants could be responsible for Scenario Quest.
- We must protect the next generation from accidentally creating another Knuckles’ Chaotix.
- Meggie is in the chat as we cope with donutism and Vector’s smug aura.
- “Let me guess: A Link Between Worlds.” “Yeah, you took a shot in the dark and you guessed right.”
- We will not be acknowledging Sonic Robo Battle and any possible links to the creators of Sonic Robo Battle.
- “In this house, we say Jonathan and Charlotte.”
- “Absolute Bruce Wayne is a guy who weighs 400 lbs. and invented axes.”
“Why on Earth were there flame grenades in that toilet?” - Caliscrub joins to also object to Vector the Crocodile.
- And then Ample Vigour logs on just in time to examine the good 32X games. You know, like Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing and… uh…
- “Oh yeah, that game about being a dad to a robot girl just came out.”
- “Boyz n the Hood has exactly one good song.”
- BEAT is reading Berserk. He is impressed by the most intricate art you have ever seen. Go read Berserk.
- Charmy Bee gets to play a special stage! And he’s wigglin’!
- The Umbrella Corporation says there are no bad ideas. Gigantic honey is on the table.
- Knuckles’ Chaotix: A Japanese platformer with euro platformer energy.
- As we finish off the night with a random boss (certainly not the final boss), I once again affirm we are never playing Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
Next lap on Sonic’s Marathon: The best and worst of the Sega Game Gear.

IT’S ROBO *BLAST* OH MY GOD.
