Skies of Arcadia Forever 01: Maiden Voyage

Welcome to Skies of Arcadia!

Our dear skeleman BEAT is handling the streaming duties for this tale of gravity piracy, but this is my website (dammit!), so I am going to take a quick moment to state my experience with Skies of Arcadia:

I liked Skied of Arcadia when I played it a little over twenty years ago. Jesus Christ.

So, suffice to say, I am glad BEAT is sailing through these skies for us, as I have not revisited this beloved Dreamcast/Gamecube RPG in Chromes’s entire lifetime. I kept meaning to get back to it! And now it is 2025! What the hell!?

Oh well. Speaking of the inexorable march of time, let’s review what happened this week. Meet Vyse! And, more importantly, Aika! They are Blue Rogues, and they raid the ship of Alfonso of the tyrannical Valuan Empire. There they discover the captured Fina, who is double kidnapped when Vyse and Aika get distracted while stealing a rock at a separate location. Oh! And Vyse’s dad was captured, too, and is set to be executed. So Vyse and Aika venture forth, screw up immediately, and are rescued by their new best friend, Drachma the Cyborg. So the whole gang raids the Valuan fortress, save Vyse’s dad, have an epic train crawl, and then rescue Fina (again). Back at home, Fina explains that thou must find the chaos emeralds, and thus our journey begins in earnest. Let’s go get some gigas!

Random Notes:

• BEAT will be sailing these skies, but we also have Morning Song, fanboymaster, Ample Vigour, Chromes, and myself along for the ride. Let’s get some piracy in motion!
• Job from Bible had a bad time. Jonah, too.
• Ample Vigour does not believe someone can have strong opinions about Mega Man. He has never been more wrong. Have you seen this entire blog?!
• BEAT lost to the first boss, so we are talking about the Ninja Gaiden timeline.
• Donkey Kong Bananza is an absolute dad game where the power fantasy is that you always can sneak in a nap.
• Cassandralyn joins for cat posting times.
• BEAT does not believe Henry VIII is a real song. I do not believe you can reach our advanced age without hearing Henry VIII.
• Do not cast aspersions on dates that require dino chicken nuggets.
• Why does Vyse’s dad get a name (Dyne!) while his spouse is merely “Vyse’s Mother”?
• “He’s just Captain Ahab.” “You remember him from literature.” “I love literature.”
• Caliscrub joins as we sell valuable information on One Piece landmarks.
• “He’s an old dude, he wants to be ready for a nap at any time.” “I feel that.” “Same.”
• “Even Worse Streams: A good reason to use the computer.”
• BEAT is very happy to use Drachma to destroy bosses and save dads.
• Did Harrison Ford lie about knowing he was the Red Hulk, or does he just not know what a hulk is?
• Vyse has a telescoping monocle! It… rarely comes up.
• “What’s this? A tutorial boss fight? How unexpected.”
• And we close out as Fina tells us about the old civilization of cool rocks.
